Product Description

Product Description
ow Smoke Halogen-Free Flame-Retardant Cable is a high-performance cable product that meets the requirements of modern environmentally friendly and safety standards.

Material Composition:

  • The insulation material is mainly composed of polyolefin resins such as polyethylene (PE) or cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE). These materials possess excellent electrical insulation properties and are free from halogen elements, ensuring that no harmful halogen gases are emitted during combustion.
  • The sheath material is typically a low-smoke halogen-free polyolefin compound. It contains inorganic flame retardants like magnesium hydroxide or aluminum hydroxide. These additives work by absorbing heat and releasing water vapor when exposed to high temperatures, thereby suppressing the combustion process and reducing the spread of flames.

Performance Characteristics:

  • Low Smoke Emission: When subjected to fire, it generates minimal smoke. The smoke density is significantly lower compared to traditional halogen-containing cables, with a high smoke transmittance. This allows for better visibility in a fire emergency, facilitating the evacuation of people and the operation of firefighting equipment.
  • Halogen-Free Property: The absence of halogens eliminates the production of toxic and corrosive gases such as hydrogen chloride and hydrogen bromide during combustion. This protects the health of people and the integrity of electrical and mechanical equipment in the vicinity, reducing the risk of secondary damage caused by corrosive gases.
  • Flame Retardancy: It exhibits outstanding flame-retardant capabilities. It can effectively resist the spread of flames and self-extinguish within a short period. It meets strict flame-retardant standards and classifications, providing reliable fire protection for various applications.
  • Good Electrical Properties: Maintains stable electrical insulation performance, ensuring the reliable transmission of electrical energy and signals. It has appropriate dielectric strength, volume resistivity, and other electrical parameters to meet the requirements of different power and communication systems.
  • Mechanical Durability: Possesses sufficient mechanical strength to withstand normal installation, operation, and environmental stresses. It can endure bending, stretching, and compression without significant damage to the cable structure, ensuring a long service life.

Applications:

  • Building Electrical Systems: Widely used in the wiring of high-rise buildings, commercial complexes, hospitals, and schools. It helps enhance fire safety in these crowded and important facilities, reducing the potential harm caused by fires.
  • Rail Transit: Essential for subway, light rail, and railway systems, providing power and signal transmission. Its low smoke and halogen-free properties are crucial in the confined and densely populated environment of transit vehicles and tunnels, ensuring passenger safety and the normal operation of the transit network.
  • Data Centers and Telecommunications: Used in computer rooms, data centers, and telecommunications base stations. It safeguards the reliable operation of sensitive electronic equipment and data transmission lines, preventing the release of harmful substances that could damage the equipment and affect data integrity.
  • Industrial Installations: Applied in various industrial plants and factories where fire safety and environmental protection are of concern. It can meet the requirements of different industrial processes and environments, ensuring the stable operation of industrial electrical systems and minimizing the environmental impact.
Product Parameters
  1. Electrical Performance Parameters
    • Rated Voltage:
      • Generally, there are multiple rated voltage levels to choose from, such as 450/750V, 0.6/1kV, etc. This indicates the voltage range within which the cable can operate stably for a long time, ensuring that electrical energy can be transmitted safely and effectively under this voltage. For example, in the power distribution system of civil buildings, the low-smoke halogen-free flame-retardant cable with a rated voltage of 450/750V can be used for the laying of lighting and socket circuits.
    • Insulation Resistance:
      • Usually, a relatively high insulation resistance value is required, generally not lower than a certain specific value. For example, at normal temperature, the insulation resistance may be required to be greater than 1000MΩ·km. Insulation resistance is an important indicator for measuring the insulation performance of cables. A high insulation resistance can effectively prevent electric leakage and ensure the normal transmission of electrical energy and the safety of use.
    • Dielectric Strength:
      • Dielectric strength refers to the maximum electric field strength that the cable insulation material can withstand without breakdown. For example, the dielectric strength of low-smoke halogen-free flame-retardant cables may be required to reach more than 20kV/mm. This means that it can withstand relatively high voltages without being broken down, thus ensuring the reliability of the cable in a high-voltage environment.
  2. Flame-Retardant Performance Parameters
    • Flame-Retardant Level:
      • Common flame-retardant levels include Class A, Class B, Class C, etc. Class A has the highest flame-retardant performance. During the combustion test, the cable can self-extinguish, and there are strict restrictions on indicators such as the charring height after combustion. For example, in the vertical burning test of Class A flame-retardant cables, the charring height may be required not to exceed the specified value (such as 2.5m). This shows that it can effectively prevent the spread of flames along the cable when a fire occurs, buying time for personnel evacuation and fire-fighting work.
    • Oxygen Index (OI):
      • Oxygen index is an important indicator for measuring the combustion performance of materials. It represents the minimum oxygen concentration required for the material to burn. The oxygen index of low-smoke halogen-free flame-retardant cables is generally relatively high, for example, it may reach more than 32%. A higher oxygen index means that the material is more difficult to burn in the air and will only burn in an environment with a relatively high oxygen concentration, thus improving the flame-retardant performance of the cable.
  3. Smoke Density Parameters
    • Maximum Smoke Density:
      • During the combustion test, there are certain restrictions on the maximum smoke density generated by the cable. For example, according to relevant standards, the maximum smoke density may be required not to exceed 75%, and there are also corresponding requirements for the average smoke density within a certain period of time (such as 30 minutes). A lower smoke density can ensure better visibility at the fire scene when a fire occurs, which is beneficial to personnel escape and fire-fighting rescue.
    • Transmittance:
      • The transmittance after combustion is a key indicator for evaluating the low-smoke performance of cables. Generally, the transmittance is required to be not lower than 60%. This means that after the smoke is generated by combustion, there is still enough light that can pass through the smoke, enabling people to see the surrounding environment clearly and evacuate safely.
  4. Physical Performance Parameters
    • Conductor Cross-Sectional Area:
      • According to different current-carrying capacity requirements, there are multiple conductor cross-sectional areas to choose from, such as 1.5mm², 2.5mm², 4mm², etc. The conductor cross-sectional area determines the current-carrying capacity of the cable, that is, the magnitude of the current that can be safely carried. For example, in general household lighting circuits, the low-smoke halogen-free flame-retardant cable with a conductor cross-sectional area of 1.5mm² can meet the basic electricity demand of lighting fixtures.
    • Cable Outer Diameter:
      • The outer diameters of different specifications of cables are different, which will affect the installation space and laying method of the cable. For example, when laying in a cable tray, it is necessary to consider the size of the cable outer diameter to reasonably arrange the layout of the cables and avoid squeezing and damage between the cables.
    • Bending Radius:
      • Generally, the minimum bending radius of the cable is specified. For example, for single-core cables, the minimum bending radius may be about 6 times the outer diameter of the cable, and for multi-core cables, it may be about 10 times the outer diameter of the cable. A reasonable bending radius can prevent the cable from being damaged due to excessive bending during installation and use, protecting the internal conductors and insulation layers.
  5. Environmental Protection Performance Parameters
    • Halogen-Free Performance:
      • It is evaluated by detecting the content of hydrogen halides (such as HCl, HBr, etc.) in the combustion products. Generally, the release amount of hydrogen halides is required to be extremely low. For example, according to relevant standards, the release amount of hydrogen halides after combustion should be less than 5mg/g. This ensures that a large amount of toxic and harmful hydrogen halide gases will not be generated during the combustion process, reducing the harm to human beings and the environment.
    • Heavy Metal Content:
      • There are strict restrictions on the contents of heavy metals such as lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), mercury (Hg), and hexavalent chromium (Cr) in cable materials. For example, the contents of these heavy metals should comply with relevant environmental protection standards such as the RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) Directive, requiring that the content of each heavy metal does not exceed the specified limit (such as 1000ppm), thus avoiding heavy metal pollution to soil and water sources after the cable is discarded.
